jcm-300x300Dr. McGowan received his PhD from the University of Pennsylvania in Bioengineering with a specialization in Magnetic Resonance Imaging, and served on the faculty of the Medical School of the University of Pennsylvania, Department of Radiology, Section of Neuroradiology. In that capacity he was funded as a Principle Investigator by the National Institutes of Health. Subsequently he served on the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the United States Naval Academy and currently he is appointed as Visiting Research Professor in the School of Biomedical Engineering, Science, and Health Systems at Drexel University. He was formerly employed by Exponent Inc., as a Senior Managing Engineer, and in that capacity was responsible for developing a capability for Magnetic Resonance Compatibility and MRI Safety testing. He is an active member of the ASTM Intl. Committee F04 on Medical Devices and has contributed to the development of standards that are currently mandated for MRI testing. He has authored over 100 scientific publications, many of which are in the field of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, and he has been listed in both Who’s Who in Science and Engineering and Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare. He has been inducted into the National Engineering Honor Society (Tau Beta Pi) and the National Physics Honor Society (Sigma Pi Sigma). He is licensed as a Professional Engineer with more than 35 years in the practice of Engineering.
